11 babies died in a maternity hospital in Tunisia

11 newborn babies lost their lives at the Rabta maternity hospital, which is part of a major hospital complex in the capital.

The ministry of health announced in a statement posted on its Facebook page, the opening of an investigation to determine the real causes of the death of babies and situate the responsibilities.

The authorities claim that the results of the investigation will be made public. “Prevention and treatment measures have been taken to avoid other victims” and “to ascertain the health status of the other babies in the motherhood,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Public Prosecution Service is also involved. The responsible minister has offered his resignation on Saturday evening.

The Tunisian Association of pediatricians stated in a statement on Facebook that “aspects in the current study” indicate an infection that has been caused by intravenous nutrition.
