A lecturer reportedly slumps and die because of non-payment of salary

In Nigeria, a tragedy occurred Monday when a lecturer from Kogi Polytechnic, Lokoja, Mr. Yakubu Nataala, allegedly collapsed and died at his residence on Kogi Poly lecturers’ quarters’ in Lokoja.

According to DAILY POST, the deceased may have died due to the non-payment of his salary. He would have received his last salary in July 2017. However, the institution’s public relations officer, Luke Tijan, told their correspondent that the lecturer, who had been operated earlier following a rupture of appendicitis, had died as a result of the operation.

Tijani, however, confirmed that the deceased was among the speakers who had not received a salary for several months.

“Yesterday, we lost one of our lecturers in the Polytechnic. Contrary to information that went viral, he never slumped and died but was earlier operated upon of appendicitis.

“He was among some of the lecturers that has not been paid salaries due to the screening exercise,” the PRO noted.
