Africa must defend itself against new coronavirus – WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) calls on African countries to better arm themselves against the new coronavirus. The countries are said to be ill-prepared for cases of infection.

WHO leader Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wants the member states of the African Union to form “a united front to be more aggressive” in the fight against the new virus. For the time being, Egypt is the only country in Africa where a case of infection has been registered.

“Our greatest concern remains the possibility that COVID-19 may spread to countries with weaker health systems,” said Tedros. According to him, special equipment is needed, among other things, if new infections are registered, only in many African countries, there is a shortage of this type of material.

The new coronavirus broke out at the end of last year in the Chinese province of Hubei. At least 2,300 patients have died of the disease in China. At least 76,000 were infected.
