An attack makes 27 dead in Nigeria

Twenty-seven people were killed in the state of Kaduna, northern Nigeria, after an armed group attacked the village of Gwaska on Saturday and burned many houses.

According to information provided by the local authorities, the armed men came from the neighboring state of Zamfara.

The gunmen surrounded the village of Gwaska in the middle of the day, then began shooting and setting houses on fire.

Many of the victims would be members of a self-defense group that was created to defend villages in the region after a series of attacks attributed to well-armed cattle thieves.

The survivors of the attack appealed for the military to be deployed to protect people living near the border between Kaduna and Zamfara states.
