Austrian takes ice bath of 2 hours, 8 minutes and improves world record

An Austrian has sharpened the world record “Longest Duration Full Body Contact With Ice” in Vienna this afternoon, say ice baths. Josef Köberl stood up to the shoulders in a vertical bath full of ice cubes and ice water. He managed to spend two hours, eight minutes and 47 seconds in the bathtub.

The successful world record attempt took place in front of the largest train station in the Austrian capital. The man said afterward that he could easily have stayed a little longer. “I didn’t think it would go so well. I feel really good. Everything is fine.”

The man is doing better than the Chinese Songhaou Jin who spent 1 hour, 53 minutes and 10 seconds in an ice bath. The Dutchman Wim Hof held the world record for this. He mastered various breathing techniques and was able to ice bath for 1 hour and 52 minutes.

Köberl is not ready for his test piece. In 2014 he was the first Austrian to swim the so-called Ice Mile, a swimming distance of 1.6 kilometers with water of barely two degrees.
