British Prime Minister Boris Johnson tests positive for coronavirus

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (55) has tested positive for the coronavirus. He reports that himself on Twitter. He says he only has mild symptoms and has a fever and cough.

Boris Johnson has isolated himself in the meantime, he tweeted. “But I will continue to lead the government through video conference in our fight against this virus. Together we will beat it,” he assures.

Johnson was tested at his official residence on Downing Street on the advice of his doctor, after experiencing “mild symptoms” on Thursday. “The test was positive,” he said.

The British prime minister – whose girlfriend Carrie Symonds is pregnant – appeared in public on Thursday evening. He then participated in the applause for health care providers organized in the United Kingdom.

British media report that ministers who consult with the prime minister should also quarantine themselves, in particular health and finance ministers. Earlier this week, it was announced that British Prince Charles (71) also took a positive corona test. He also has only mild symptoms.

The UK now has more than 11,600 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus. Five hundred seventy-eight people have already died from the disease.
