Deadly shooting in US supermarket: Customers and staff must hide in freezers

One person has been killed and 14 injured in a shooting at a supermarket in the US state of Tennessee. The gunman, who barged into the store around 1:30 p.m. local time, was also found dead. Authorities say he died from a gunshot wound he inflicted on himself. The injured victims were taken to the hospital. Some of them would be in serious condition.

The shooting took place at a supermarket of the American chain Kroger in Collierville, a town about 40 kilometers east of Memphis. About 44 employees were working in the store at the time of the incident. They tried to escape together with the customers by hiding in the freezers and offices of the supermarket.

Brignetta Dickerson, who was working as a cashier at the time of the shooting, tried to flee with her colleagues but saw the gunman come straight at them. “He shot one of my colleagues in the head and a customer in the stomach. He just kept shooting,” it sounds.

Police officers and some witnesses to the shooting gather in front of the supermarket. The gunman died as a result of a gunshot wound he inflicted on himself, police said.

It is not clear exactly why the shooter entered the supermarket. The gunman’s vehicle, which was parked in the store’s parking lot, is still under investigation. The victims of the incident also receive professional assistance.
