Hope of reaching Britain: 2 Africa migrants hide in luggage box

For a family from the United Kingdom, the holiday in Northern France started in a very special way. During a stop along a toll road in Normandy, two African migrants suddenly crawled out of the luggage box on the roof of their car.

The migrants, according to authorities, two sixteen-year-olds from Eritrea and Guinea, had chosen the car with an English license plate in the hope of reaching Britain. They were discovered when the British – father, mother, and two children – heard a noise in the luggage box and opened the lid during a break along the A29 Le Havre-Amiens.

The family asked a Frenchman who witnessed the remarkable scene to call the police. Meanwhile, the stowaw ays fled. They were arrested a little further away, according to the Sky News reports after reports by radio station France Bleu.

British tourists stated that they had traveled to France with the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle and that they had spent the night in Calais. There, the migrants probably hid in their luggage box. The parents filed a complaint of theft because the stowaways had removed the luggage from the box to make room for themselves.

Released

The Public Prosecutor in the city of Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) issued a placement order for the two minor migrants. But the French Child Welfare Agency (ASE), which also deals with unaccompanied foreign minors, refused to accommodate them. That is why the African teenagers were released again, according to France Bleu.
