Idris Elba doesn’t think blackface should be censored in old shows

According to Idris Elba (47), there is no need to censor old shows with blackface sketches. That’s what the actor says in an interview with Radio Times.

Instead, he suggests a kind of warning system in which viewers are told that old, outdated, and insulting views can be shown.

“To mock the truth, you have to know the truth,” Idris says. “But to censor or even withdraw racist subjects from a program… I think viewers need to know that people made such programs.”

The ‘Luther’ actor, on the other hand, is an advocate of freedom of expression. “If you want to move forward, people need to know that freedom of speech is accepted, but viewers need to know what they’re looking at. I don’t believe in censorship. I believe we can say what we want to say because, in the end, we are all storytellers. ”

Recently, many shows or episodes of streaming services were made in the context of the Black Lives Matters movement. For example, an episode of ‘Golden Girls’ had to believe it, but also the popular British series ‘Little Britain’.
