In Cameroon, at least 8 children shot in school

At least eight children have been shot or killed with machetes in a school in Cameroon, the United Nations reports. Twelve children were seriously injured and taken to hospitals.

It is unclear who shot in the private school. The attack has not been claimed, authorities in the southwestern English-speaking department of Meme said.

Things have been troubled for some time in the two English-speaking regions in the West African country. They say they are treated as second-class citizens in the predominantly French-speaking Cameroon. The two regions announced in 2016 that they wanted to secede to form the new country of Ambazonia.

The conflict has already claimed more than three thousand lives. The army launched an operation against the separatists in early September.
