Justin Timberlake apologizes after the fuss around ‘Framing Britney Spears’

Justin Timberlake (40) has seen many eyes in recent days. In the documentary ‘Framing Britney Spears’ the relationship that Timberlake and Britney (39) had years ago is examined extensively, which would reveal that Justin may have had more part in her mental breakdown than previously thought. Followers of the singer left a massive amount of reactions on his social media in the past week.

Britney and Justin were a couple for three years before breaking up in 2002. The documentary now features several crucial moments from this period. For example, it can be seen how Britney had to deal with an unseen load of criticism, an image that Justin Timberlake had consciously co-created.

According to the documentary, Britney was consciously put in a negative light at the time to boost Justin’s career. This is something viewers and followers of the singer clearly do not intend to spare the singer, and his Instagram has since sparked a stream of calls and comments urging the singer to apologize to Britney publicly.

Apologies on Instagram

Something Timberlake has done in the meantime. For example, the singer responded via a message on his Instagram account to the many accusations, and he also immediately apologized. “I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns, and I want to respond. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism.”

In the message, which is two pages long, Justin Timberlake says he wants to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson. In the past, Timberlake and Jackson performed onstage together during the Super Bowl halftime show. During their performance, he accidentally pulled a little too hard on the top of the singer so that everyone suddenly got to see her nipple. Rather than responding to all responses and taking responsibility, he chose to ignore everything.

“The industry is flawed. It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It’s designed this way. As a man in a privileged position I have to be vocal about this,” it continues in the post. Timberlake admits that he has made mistakes in the past, but he wants to change it in the future.

He wrote: “I’ve seen the messages, tags, comments, and concerns, and I want to respond. I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, where I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism. I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women, and I know I failed. I also feel compelled to respond, in part, because everyone involved deserves better and most importantly because this is a larger conversation that I wholeheartedly want to be part of and grow from. The industry is flawed. It sets men, especially white men, up for success. It’s designed this way. As a man in a privileged position, I have to be vocal about this. Because of my ignorance, I didn’t recognize it for all that it was while it was happening in my own life, but I do not want to ever benefit from others being pulled down again. I have not been perfect in navigating all of this throughout my career. I know this apology is the first step and doesn’t absolve the past. I want to take accountability for my own missteps in all of this as well as be part of a world that uplifts and supports. I care deeply about the wellbeing of the people I love and have loved. I can do better, and I will do better.”
