Meghan Markle gets slapped on the fingers for high-cost lawsuit

Meghan Markle (39) has been slapped on the finger by the judge. The high costs of the lawsuit she filed against the Mail on Sunday are the reason for this. The judge was disapproving of the budget that both parties have allocated for the lawsuit.

Meghan’s legal team has estimated the cost of the lawsuit at £1.8 million, while Mail has estimated costs of £ 1.2 million. The judge said those amounts were disproportionate for a case that she essentially called a personal dispute.

The book ‘Finding Freedom’ was also discussed during the session. According to lawyers for the Mail, Harry and Meghan cooperated extensively in writing the book.

Their reasoning was that Meghan’s collaboration with the writers indicates that she wanted personal details, such as the contents of her handwritten letter to her father, Thomas Markle, to be made public.

The publication of that letter is the direct reason for the lawsuit. Meghan’s lawyers reiterated there is no evidence to support that claim. One of the book’s authors, Omid Scobie, also supported Meghan in his testimony by describing the book as an independent project.

During the hearing, a date was also announced for the handling of the case. The trial is scheduled for January 11 and will take seven to 10 days. Seven witnesses will appear, four of whom will act as witnesses for Meghan.
