More than 100 dead in attacks on military bases in Somalia

More than 100 people have been killed in attacks on two military bases in Somalia. The military has stated that. The attacks were claimed by the Sunni terror group Al-Shabaab. He also claimed a suicide attack in the capital Mogadishu, in which at least five people were killed.

The attacks targeted bases in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia. Each time there was a suicide attack with a car bomb, after which the bases were stormed.

According to the army, 116 rebels were killed, while four soldiers did not survive the attacks. Civilians are also said to have been killed by stray bullets.

Al-Shabaab, which claimed the attacks, stated that 47 soldiers were killed and that it stole weapons, ammunition, and vehicles.

A few hours later, at least five more people died when a suicide bomber jumped into the air at a cafe in the capital, Mogadishu. Other people were injured. This attack was also claimed by Al-Shabaab.

The terror group has been fighting for control in the Horn of Africa for years. They control large parts of southern and central Somalia and regularly carry out attacks and attacks, usually against the police forces but often also against civilians.
