Mysterious elephant death in Botswana: over 150 animals died in few months

In three months, 154 elephants have mysteriously died in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The authorities in Botswana have launched an investigation.

The death of the elephants is a mystery for wildlife connoisseurs.

The carcasses were still found completely intact, meaning that no poachers were involved. Poisoning is also excluded as a cause of death, as is a possible outbreak of anthrax.

The disease occurred naturally in the soil in parts of Botswana and was responsible for the deaths of over 100 elephants last year. Blood samples have now been taken and sent to a lab in South Africa for further analysis.

Experts say more animals will die. “We are experiencing that elephants are still dying in the region,” said wildlife officer Dikamatso Ntshebe. “We also see animals that are sick and dying.”
