North and South Korea want to make border crossings

North and South Korea have agreed today that they will work hard to make border crossings. Possibly there are already in November or December connections between the two countries with roads and railways. In an interview with ‘Le Figaro’ the South Korean president Moon Jae-in today praises the “sincerity” of the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The agreement was concluded in Panmunjom, a complex that is one of the few openings in the border. At the meeting were the Reunification Ministers of both countries, Cho Myoung-gyon from the south and Ri Son-gwon from the north.

Both countries are also going to talk with the Red Cross in November about the reunification of families separated by the virtually hermetically sealed border, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap. The border between Stalinist-controlled North Korea and the pro-western south is actually the front line at the time the Korean War ended in 1953. There has never been a peace treaty.

The two Koreas also agreed to participate in international sports tournaments with one team. Later this month, both leaders will start talks about the joint organization of the 2032 Olympic Games, according to South Korean broadcaster KBS that reported this today.

The relationship between the two opposites is experiencing an unprecedented improvement this year with a series of summits between Moon Jae-in and Kim Jong-un. The latter would seek an opening for economic reasons for his isolated reign of terror.
