Oops, mistake! 7 blunders in films you never see before

Last week the nominations of the Oscars were announced. ‘La La Land’ is still record holder with sixteen nominations, but that film is not entirely spotless. Stany Crets shared on his Instagram page a sloppiness in the editing he had discovered. And it is by no means the only film where a beauty flaw has crept in.

1. Right hand, left hand

The sloppiness appears at the end of the film. When the character of Ryan Gosling slides back to the table after a dance, he immediately seizes his beer. He does that with his left hand. In the next shot you can see how Gosling drinks from the bottle while he holds it in his right hand.

2. The stormtrooper who hits his head in ‘Star Wars’

The stormtrooper from ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope’ (1977) steps confidently through the sliding door, but for his companion on his left is that much less obvious. He bangs hard against the door with his forehead. Director George Lucas could laugh with the incident afterwards, he even made a reference to the incident in ‘Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones’ (2002) by letting Joda Fett hit his head.

The white cowboy in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’

For this you have to be super-fast. When a character from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’ (2003) bends to the left, a cowboy with a white hat suddenly appears. It obviously has nothing to do with the pirates. Later it turned out to be a crew member who was assumed not to come into the picture.

The figurant who does no more trouble in ’10 Things I Hate About You’

This is a nice one from ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ (1999). When one of the main characters Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) shoots a gymnast with a bow and arrow everyone rushes (in the background) to provide reinforcement. One girl even goes crazy enthusiast and in run to get help. When she thinks she is no longer in the picture, she stops walking and walks nonchalantly further.

The boy who covers his ears before the shot in ‘North by Northwest’

‘North By Northwest’ is considered one of the most important films by top director Alfred Hitchcock. In the famous scene where Eva Marie Saint Cary Grant shoots in a restaurant, a boy in the background stops his fingers in the ears before a shot is fired. That scene was obviously already recorded a few times before.

The boy with the suggestive gesture in ‘Back to the Future Part III’

Right in the background you can see how the blond boy with the cap makes a ‘come here’ gesture. Verne Brown is called for the character in the third part of ‘Back to the Future’ (1990) and he is played by Dannel Evans. Later he would have stated that he wanted to make clear to the crew that he had to go to the toilet very urgently.

The figurant who just does not cover himself quickly enough in ‘Teen Wolf’

The film ‘Teen Wolf’ from 1985 has barely survived the ravages of time, but the scene in which the figurant in the background just too late covered his open gulp, all the more. The animation series ‘Family Guy’ even devoted a sketch to it. The truth behind the fragment, however, turns out to be a lot less spectacular than the images suggest. Larger shots show that the figurant is a woman who wants to hide a piece of her shirt under her sweater.
