Rwanda: Chinese President Signs 15 Bilateral Agreements

After Senegal, the Chinese president continues his African tour in Rwanda. Xi Jinping arrived Sunday evening in Kigali hosted by President Kagame.

The highlight of this trip: the signing of fifteen or so bilateral agreements.

Fifteen bilateral agreements have been concluded between China and Rwanda in key sectors such as hospitals, road and air transport, e-commerce, and culture and science.

The signing ceremony of these cooperation agreements was held at the headquarters of the Rwandan presidency.

A ceremony broadcast live on the Rwanda TV channel, during which the two heads of state took the floor.

Paul Kagame said he was “very happy” with this strengthening of cooperation between his country and the Asian giant.

“The signing of these bilateral agreements demonstrates what is possible between our two countries.”

“But also between China and the African continent.”

“Mr. President, I hope to welcome you once again to Rwanda,” said Paul Kagame.

Brics Summit in South Africa

This is indeed the first visit of the Chinese president to Rwanda, which Xi Jinping did not fail to underline, too, in his speech: “I discovered a dynamic, well-organized country that is progressing in its development”.

Before continuing: “We support each other. And we will continue to move forward together, taking into account our respective national realities. We both recognize the need to link our development strategies.”

The meeting between the two leaders continued on a lunch.

Xi Jinping is now expected in South Africa where he will participate from this Wednesday at the summit of Brics (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).

The Chinese president will leave his place in Kigali to the Indian Prime Minister who arrives on Monday night.
