Loomba had ignored the warning signs and climbed over the safety barriers to make a selfie with the background’s panoramic view. She tripped and fell off the cliff, more than 80 meters down.

There was no help for the mother. Rescue workers needed six hours to recover her body.

The viewpoint is a trendy photo spot. On Instagram, you can find dozens of photos of people standing on the protruding rock or dangle their legs over the edge.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the authorities reminded the public to observe safety signs and guidelines at all times and that no photo is worth a person’s life. “We cannot cordon off every part of Victoria,” said Minister Lisa Neville. “People must take responsibility.”
