Singing war veteran of 89 wins ‘Britains Got Talent’: “I can die happily now”

Colin Thackery, a war veteran of 89, has won ‘Britains Got Talent’. With a performance of the song ‘Love Changes Everything’, he made it for two magicians. He would donate the £ 250,000 to a charity.

Colin Thackery fought for Great Britain in the Korean War in the 1950s, but in addition to a strong sense of civicism, the man also appears to have an exceptional voice. In the first round of Britains Got Talent, Thackery impressed with the song “We’ll Meet Again,” which he dedicated to his late wife Joan, whom he married in 1950 before moving to Korea.

“I don’t know what to say,” Thackery stammered when he heard that he had won. “Thank you all for your support,” added the audience favorite. The main prize for winning the show is not only £ 250,000, but the winner can also act for the queen.

“I have been at the service of her for more than 25 years, for her performance would be a dream. Then I could die satisfied,” Thackery said about that earlier in the show. The retired Londoner also had a plan with the prize money. “I now live in such a nice place, I will just donate the money.”

Colin left no one untouched. Jury member Amanda Holden did not hide her admiration. “You are unbeatable. You are a gentleman, I respect you, you inspire me and everyone loves you”, she told the veteran earlier in the show.

When presenters Ant and Dec announced the winner, Thackery was treated to a standing ovation. Juror Simon Cowell, just like the other jury members, stood up and opened his arms wide laughing. The audience began to chant his name loudly.
