Surprise album of Taylor Swift enters the record books

‘Folklore’, the new album by Taylor Swift, has been streaming massively since its release on Friday. On Spotify alone, the sixteen songs from the singer’s eighth studio record have been listened to about 80 million times worldwide.

With 80 million streams, Taylor breaks the record of the biggest opening on the release day for a female artist. That was in the name of Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next”, which was listened to 70.2 million times on the first day last year.

Also, ‘Folklore’ now records the best opening of 2020 bypassing Juice WRLD’s ‘Legends Never Die’. That album returned less than two weeks to 73 million listenings.

In the worldwide Spotify charts, Taylor is now eight places in the top 10 with the song ‘Cardigan’ (7.7 million streams) in the first place.

‘Folklore’ is expected to hit number 1 in many countries next week.

Taylor Swift released the album on Friday without announcing earlier. She wrote the record when she was in self-quarantine.
