Trump urges governors to crackdown: “Otherwise, you look like jerks”

US President Donald Trump has urged governors to crackdown on protesters in the US. “You have to dominate,” he said during a conference call from which the New York Times received an audio clip. “Otherwise, they’ll take you by surprise and make you look like a bunch of jerks.”

At the conference call, Trump expressed his support for a strong arm of the law: “You must arrest people and jail for long periods of time.” In this way, he urged his governors to be more “dominant” towards the protesters or “terrorists”, as he called them.

“If you don’t dominate, going to run over you, and you will look like a bunch of jerks.”

The president also stated that left-wing radicals are responsible for the violence in America. He also said that such disorder had happened before. “And it only has a chance of success if you are weak. Most of you are also weak.”

Trump also spoke of the situation in Washington, where it was previously unsettled at the White House. “We are going to bring in thousands of people. We are going to perform very, very hard.”

Demonstrations are ongoing across the US after George Floyd, 46, died in Minneapolis a week ago of police brutality. Agent Derek Chauvin, 44, had been leaning on Floyd’s neck with his knee for minutes.

All in all, that took 8 minutes and 46 seconds. In the last 3 minutes, Floyd had already stopped breathing. Floyd had already informed Chauvin several times that he would no longer breathe.
