Trump’s adviser flies in cell for lies against FBI

George Papadopoulos, a former campaign advisor to US President Donald Trump, was sentenced to fourteen days in prison today.

He also gets 200 hours of community service, comes under supervision for a year and has to pay a fine of 9500 dollars (8200 euros).

Papadopoulos has admitted that he lied to the FBI about contacts with Russia during his work for the Trump campaign.

Papadopoulos had contact with a British professor, who said that Russia had harmful information about Trumps opponent Hillary Clinton.

According to the prosecutors, Papadopoulos used his contacts with the professor to improve his own position within the campaign team and see if he could arrange a meeting between Trump and Russians. “I made a terrible mistake, but I am a good person,” said Papadopoulus.

Papadopoulos is the second person from the entourage of Trump who is convicted. Earlier, the Dutch lawyer Alex van der Zwaan received 30 days in prison. Campaign manager Paul Manafort was found guilty of bank fraud, but he still needs to hear his punishment. National safety advisor Michael Flynn and lobbyist Sam Patten have also confessed.
