WHO ends trials with malaria drug against coronavirus

The World Health Organization (WHO) has temporarily suspended tests to see whether the drug hydroxychloroquine helps against the coronavirus. Experiments were started in several countries to see if the malaria drug helps to prevent someone from getting the virus.

The decision was made based on an article in the medical journal The Lancet stating that it actually increased and did not lower the chance of death.

According to what WHO President Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. ‘The trials have been suspended as long as it is being investigated whether the drug is safe.’ If tests show that the product is safe, the tests will continue.

US President Donald Trump said last week to take the drug daily as a precaution, although he says he has stopped using it again. In Brazil, the government also recommended its use.
