WHO warns: “South Africa, Algeria and Cameroon become ‘corona hotspots’ of Africa”

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that major health measures are needed in South Africa, Algeria, and Cameroon. Within Africa, the new coronavirus is spreading rapidly, particularly in those countries.

The director of the WHO’s regional office for Africa voiced her concerns on Thursday, in a briefing, in Geneva, where the WHO is based.

According to Matshidiso Moeti, there will be a “sustained increase” in the number of corona infections in Africa until a vaccine is released.

According to John Hopkins University data, 55,421 people have been infected with the lung virus in South Africa and 1,210 have died.

At the end of May, the number of infections was still less than half the current number.

Until recently, the country had a very strict lockdown.

In Algeria, the number of infections is currently at 10,484 and the number of deaths at 732. In Cameroon, there are 8,681 and 212, respectively.
