Yasir Arman returns to Sudan despite death sentence

Yasir Arman was convicted for his involvement in an uprising in the state of Blue Nile in 2011. He joined the SPLM rebel group in southern Sudan in the 1980s to fight the Khartoum government.

After the split of the country and the creation of South Sudan in 2011, he formed the rebel group SPLM-N, which continued to confront the troops of President Omar al-Bashir.

Yasir Arman would not have been worried by the new authorities when he arrived on Sunday. Since the ouster of Omar al-Bashir’s power, discussions have continued between the transitional military council and the protest movement for the establishment of a civilian executive.

Yasir Arman should join these negotiations.
