Zambia denies asylum to Zimbabwean opponent

The asylum was denied to Tendai Biti, according to Zambian Foreign Minister Joe Malanji.

The Zimbabwean opponent arrived in Zambia on Wednesday morning, 8th August.

According to BBC news reports, “he wanted to apply for asylum, but his motives are not meritorious and we are keeping him in custody before he returns to Harare,” Malanji Joe, the Minister of foreign affairs said.

“It’s not up to us to say when he will come back, it depends on the Zimbabwean authorities,” he added.

Biti is a member of the opposition grand coalition, the MDC, which lost last week’s elections.
