Yap Lai Hong, a 102-year-old woman from the Asian city-state of Singapore, survived a corona infection. Two other members of the rest home where she stayed died from the virus. All over the world, the coronavirus mainly affects older people.
Singapore was initially very successful in fighting the virus, but in April, the number of infections surprisingly increased by a factor of 17.
Low-paid migrant workers living in confined spaces are particularly affected.
The number of infections in Singapore has now risen to 17,000.
Among them are more than 14,300 migrant workers.
Of the more than 900 cases reported on Friday alone, “the vast majority” were foreign workers, the Ministry of Health said.
