When you have inspiration, any task is done with ease. You see the ultimate goal and feel that you have found application for your talents – this makes you move forward. But inspiration is a fickle thing, and therefore unreliable. It can disappear at the most inopportune moment, and if you are used to doing something only when you have inspiration, then the work will stop.
Inspiration can disappear because of criticism from people around you, because of an uninteresting task, bad weather, a more important item on your to-do list for the day, or simply on its own. And if the inspiration is gone, it cannot be easy to get it back. Instead of sitting back and waiting for you to want to get back to work, change your approach and focus on discipline. We’ve put together a few reasons why it’s time for you to stop depending on inspiration.
You will develop your talent
If you only do something when you have inspiration for it, then you are not developing your talent in any way. For your knowledge to be put into practice to improve your skills, you have to work hard and hard, moreover, even in those moments when this work is not easy for you: when you do not want to do it, when you have to make a lot of efforts to get a result, when you need to force yourself to do something.
It is in the complexities that your skills are honed. If you always work only on enthusiasm, when you have inspiration for this, you will not have growth. You will not be able to do your job with high quality, so you cannot be called a professional in your field.
You will learn self-discipline
Success is the balance of talent and performance. Some specific inclinations like a predisposition to any occupation are not enough. To achieve good results in anything and realize your potential, you must make an effort and control yourself. Self-discipline will help with this.
When you stop relying on inspiration and decide to become the master of your life, you will have to develop certain habits and set rigid rules to move forward confidently.
For example, sit down to work simultaneously, regardless of whether you want to do it or not. And any habit is reinforced by the daily repetition of the same actions. It will not be so difficult for disciplined people to force themselves to do something for the sake of the desired result. So don’t underestimate self-discipline. This skill will help you in your life more than once.
You stop procrastinating
Losing inspiration is a great excuse if you don’t want to do certain things. You convince yourself that you cannot overcome yourself and complete the task without motivation, and therefore with a clear conscience, postpone your tasks for an indefinite time. Of course, the chances of achieving what you started in the coming days are incredibly low.
You need to be able to override yourself and make an effort to do everything on time. The more often you put off your tasks for later, the more likely you will not remember them until the deadlines ignite.
Learn to generate new ideas using your surroundings
Sometimes you don’t have to wait for inspiration to create something cool. You need to learn to notice what surrounds you and take these objects, events, or emotions as a basis.
For example, if you are a photographer and you have no inspiration, look through the profiles of your colleagues, see what photos are published by special magazines, find interesting pictures on photo hosting sites. At the very least, you will find many fresh ideas for yourself, or at least determine in which direction you should move.
You will learn to appreciate your work
When you act only by inspiration, the work goes easily and naturally; you are interested in the process and do not perceive it as energy-consuming. It will seem that you are doing ordinary things that any person can easily cope with. You will not appreciate your work until you feel the inner resistance – lack of inspiration; when you don’t know what to take on, you can hardly force yourself to continue; you suffer from a lack of ideas.
But once you learn to work without inspiration, you will not allow yourself or the people around you to devalue your work. You will clearly understand how much effort you have put into the result, making you more confident in yourself.
You will gain independence from external circumstances
Inspiration can “kill” negative comments, unpleasant people on the team, the discrepancy between the desired and reality, the lack of immediate visible results, etc. If you depend on inspiration, then in some way, you rely on external circumstances.
But as soon as you stop waiting for the coming of the muse and learn how to perform the tasks assigned to you efficiently and on time, you will become a real professional in your field, over whom the surrounding factors have no control.
You will become more patient
There are no ideal conditions and circumstances, which means that any of your undertakings will not immediately bring the desired result. You will have to give up the idea of waiting for inspiration to come to you.
Nevertheless, you will become more patient: towards yourself, your mistakes, people around you, the process of your work, etc. You will stop demanding the impossible from yourself and hope that you will succeed the first time. You will achieve excellent results through hard work and improving your skills.
You will do more
Without the constant expectation of inspiration, you will begin to do much more. You no longer need to take pauses for an indefinite amount of time to take up the task again, already in a good mood. You will do what is required of you, despite the lack or presence of motivation for it.
