After 40 years, Morocco will fly to Israel fo Miss Universe

The Cherifian Kingdom will send a candidate for the 70th edition of Miss Universe, after 40 years of absence. The revelation was revealed by the head of the Miss Universe organization, Paula Shugart, who also confirmed that a contestant from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) would take part in the annual beauty pageant for the first time.

Morocco will compete in the next Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Eilat, Israel, on December 12, 2021. “Another unique aspect is that there will be a candidate from the United Arab Emirates for the first time, as well as one from Morocco, for the first time in decades. The final list of applicants will be announced in November,” said Paula Shugart.

On May 17, Andrea Meza, the current Miss Universe, was crowned after the event had to be postponed for more than a year owing to the continuing Coronavirus epidemic.

The 26-year-old Mexican defeated 73 other women, including Julia Gama (Miss Brazil) and Janick Maceta Del Castillo (Miss Peru), respectively, first and second runners-up. Note that Steve Harvey, an American comedian and television presenter, will return as host of the ceremony, which will make it the sixth time he will host the program.

In September 2020, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain established diplomatic ties with Israel, even as Morocco and Sudan inked similar accords with the Jewish state to repair their relations.
