Already 194 attacks in twelve days: north of Brazil plagued by violence
The power struggle between criminal gangs and security forces in the north of Brazil has escalated further. During the night from Friday to Saturday (local time), suspected gang members blew up a power pole in the Fortaleza area.
In the city on the Atlantic coast a bomb attack on a car dealer was also committed. Since the beginning of the year, the authorities in the state of Ceará recorded 194 attacks on banks, shops, public institutions and vehicles. So far, 319 suspects have been arrested. The attacks of the gangs are apparently directed against the harsh course that the new president Jair Bolsonaro wants to fight in the fight against crime. That reported the news site G1
The ex-military has promised to fight criminals with determination and to improve the security situation in Brazil. Behind the attacks with incendiary bombs, explosives and firearms, powerful crime cartels would be hidden, sent from the prisons of the South American country.
From now on, locked bend conductors will also be checked more tightly. In the meantime, 35 gang members have already been transferred to federal prisons to prevent communication with their companions at leisure. The authorities also confiscated a large number of mobile phones, weapons and drugs.
