Since December 27, 314 people have been killed in traffic accidents in Thailand. There were also more than 2,800 injured. On the last day of the year alone, 72 traffic fatalities and almost 600 injured were counted, the Ministry of Emergency Response announced.
The end of year in Thailand is known as “the seven dangerous days” on the road. That period will last until Wednesday. Last year there were 423 deaths and more than 4,000 injuries in the same period. In 2016 a sad record of 478 dead was reached.
About 40 percent of accidents, often with motorcycles, are the result of drunken driving. Thai roads are among the most dangerous in the world. In a recently published ranking of the World Health Organization, Thailand is in ninth place.
