Anthony Crolla seemed to have had a relatively smooth victory against the Indonesian Daud Yordan last weekend. But when he had to deliver a urine sample for the doping control. The Brit realized that simple victories do not exist in boxing.
Crolla, a 31-year-old powerhouse from Manchester, is aiming for a WBA title fight at the lightweights against Ukrainian Vasyl Lomachenko. And to be able to settle that camp, the Brit had to win against Daud Yordan on his own territory. That worked as well – after twelve rounds the judges chose the side of the former champion in the lightweights.
After the camp, ‘Million Dollar’, the nickname of Crolla, was called to doping control. When the Brit saw his urine sample, he suddenly realized that he should have smacked a lot of slapping on his body. Especially in the spleen, kidney and liver region. The urine turned red through the blood, Crolla did not believe his eyes. He even posted the sample on Instagram. The emoji that draws big eyes of surprise did not lack.
“All praise for Yordan, he forced me to the limit,” Crolla said on Twitter. “The fans will have an opinion after this victory, but I will not challenge Lomachenko out of respect. On the other hand: if the chance arises to fight for the title, then of course I will not ignore it.”
Thank you for all the msgs from the fight last night. Happy to get the win against a top fighter in Daud Yordan. Next stop world title!!
