In northwestern Nigeria’s Zamfara state, attacks by gunmen this week have killed at least 140 people. Several residents announced this on Saturday.
The attackers attacked several villages. “We have buried a total of 143 people who were killed in the attacks,” said Balarabe Alhaji, the village chief of one of the targeted places.
Villagers also told the BBC that the attackers, who were moving around with motorcycles, set fire to houses and fired randomly at people.
The government has not yet confirmed the death toll.
