The Rwandan police have started an investigation into the death of a Belgian woman in Kigali. The 36-year-old Olga Mugege fell Saturday night from the tenth floor of a hotel in the Rwandan capital. It would be suicide, reports The New Times.
Mugege was born in Burundi. She acquired Belgian nationality and worked for ten years at a bank in Brussels. Last year she started working as a project manager at Bruda East Africa. The woman was a regular guest at the Grande Ubumwe Hotel.
Last Saturday she spent a few hours at the hotel. She drank a few drinks and would have jumped off the tenth floor around 9pm. Her body was discovered shortly thereafter.
A spokesman for the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) confirms the death and says that suicide is assumed. “Her family lives in Belgium and will be contacted in the context of the research”, says Modeste Mbabazi.
The woman’s remains were taken to the hospital for an autopsy. Mugege’s next of kin reacted shocked to her death and questioned the cause of the suicide.
