British Prime Minister, Theresa May wears ‘Akwete Cloth’ made in Nigeria

Residents of the state of Abia, recognized for their business knowledge and ability to produce locally manufactured products, once again met expectations.

British Prime Minister Theresa May arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday as part of her visit to some African countries and met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.

This influential British stateswoman was on social networks shortly after her visit to the country because of her clothing, which was made from local Nigerian cloth.

It revealed that the suit was made from the famous “Akwete fabric”, a fabric manufactured locally by Akwete women in the Akwete from Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia state’

In the Southeast part of Nigeria, the region opened its social media pages to congratulate, Theresa May, who ignored the designers, such as Gucci and Prada, to support the locally manufactured product in the country.

For those who do not know, Akwete cloth is a single hand Igboland woven textile product for which the city of Akwete in the state of Abia, Nigeria, is famous.

The traditional Igbo fabric, as demonstrated in Akwete, transforms sisal-hemp, raffia and spun cotton into finished products.
