A British soldier died in an operation against poachers in the African country of Malawi. According to reports, the soldier was killed by an elephant.
The British Ministry of Defense confirms in a statement that the soldier has indeed died and speaks of a tragic incident. “It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defense has confirmed the death of Mathew Talbot, who died on 5 May during an operation against poaching.”
The British Secretary of Defense Penny Mordaunt wants to seize the tragic incident to make it clear that soldiers face dangerous situations during their missions to save endangered species.
Mathew Talbot is described as “exceptionally sweet and friendly”. The mission in Malawi was his first real mission.
