Having come to power since 1982, the incumbent president, Paul Biya, has been widely won by the first counts to run for the seventh consecutive term. However, the opposition disputes these results.
With 71.28% of the vote, Paul Biya topped the count by the National Census Commission. Maurice Kamto, the candidate of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC), came second with 14.23% of the vote, and Cabral Libii, challenger of the National Union for Integration to Solidarity (Universe), arrives with 6.28%.
