By 2025, a quarter of the cars sold in China must be electrically powered, according to a note from the Chinese Ministry of Industry.
With this, Beijing raises the targets for electrically powered cars. In 2017 the ambition was that by 2025 one fifth of the newly sold cars should be electrically powered.
The demand for electric cars has risen sharply in China in recent years. Today, five percent of new vehicles sold are electric.
However, sales have been troubling in recent months, after subsidies have been reduced. The new objective shows that the greening of the fleet remains a priority for Beijing.
China wants to combat pollution in this way and be less dependent on oil from abroad.
