The German police put an end to protest action by climate activists, who had blocked a train with Volkswagen cars near the main factory of the car manufacturer in Wolfsburg. A police spokesperson reported that on Wednesday.
The demonstrators stopped the train on Tuesday by blocking a track. According to the police, the last demonstrator was removed from the tracks around midnight. An investigation into dangerous behavior with consequences for rail traffic has started.
The police did not indicate how many activists were taken off the tracks. On Tuesday there were a few dozen, some of whom had attached themselves to the tracks.
Action against the car sector
The demonstrators indicated that their action was aimed at the car sector, which they hold responsible for a significant part of the current climate crisis.
Volkswagen announced that the blockade had no consequences for production. Six activists still blocked access to a nearby Volkswagen experience center on Wednesday, which also serves as a distribution point for new cars, a spokesperson said.
