Corona! Prophet Mohammed’s mosque closed first time after 1,400 years

The Mosque of the Prophet Muhammad called Al-Masjid an-Nabawi was closed for the first time after 14 centuries – 1,400 years. This was a precautionary measure against the spread of coronavirus.

Since Thursday evening, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah (Al-Masjid Al-Nabawi) has been closed to worshippers by the decision of the authorities. The decision reinforces the measures aimed at stopping the spread of coronavirus epidemic, which is accelerating all over the world.

The call to prayer is maintained, and prayer is only allowed in a select committee (mosque staff). Last Friday, only a few dozen faithful were present for the weekly preaching and prayer.

This new development was made public by a dedicated Islamic Twitter account @QuranAndHadithh. “The Prophet’s Mosque is closed for the first time in 14 centuries, since the time of the Prophet’s Islamic mission. Ya Allah, please put an end to this coronavirus,” tweeted the account with a photo of some of the men closing the doors of the mosque.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia suspended congregational prayers in other mosques across the country, except for Masjid al-Haram and Masjid al-Nabawi.

A moment full of emotion and sadness. The imam could not hold back his tears at the sight of this new scene. Recall that the Masjid An-Nabawi has a capacity of 250,000 people inside and a total capacity of a million people. The number of confirmed virus cases in the country stands at 274.
