Divorce me or I will poison you: Wife threats her husband

Ronke Olanrewaju, has made a threat to kill her husband through poison, if a customary court did not accept her divorce petition.

The injured wife and mother of three children had approached Oja-Oba’s customary court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, to obtain a divorce from her husband, which she described as abusive and violent.

Ronke told the court that her husband, Sunday Olanrewaju, had beaten her every time he saw her with male clients, adding that each time they brought the police, he boasted of being a prominent politician.

She said, “My lord, he also beat up my mother like a baby. Separate us now, or else, I will poison him. Each time I discuss business with male customers, he would beat me and say they were my lovers.”

However, on Sunday, the husband begged the court to uphold the marriage, claiming that his wife was like a mother to him.

The president of the court, Chief Henry Agbaje, set 18 September 2018 for decision.

He added that, although the case is urgent because of the threat of the woman, it was also important to allow reconciliation.
