DPO gave N3000 to single mothers reportedly brutalized by police
As a compensation, the Police command in Ogun state, Nigeria, has given sum of N3,000 to two single mothers. That were allergy brutalized by some police officers.
According to some reports, the victims, who are traders, returned from the market. Soon after, they were approached by security operatives, who wrongly accused them of thieves.
Their denial of the allegation led to their being severely beaten by the police. Who then dragged them to the Lafenwa divisional police headquarters in Abeokuta. Where the DPO exonerated them and apologized.
He then proceeded to give them a paltry sum of 3000 naira to treat the serious injuries they suffered. But according to brutalized mothers, they are the only ones caring for their children. And the injuries they sustain could not allow them to go on the market, until further notice.
Human rights activists are now asking the Ogun State Police Commissioner, Area Commander, Zone 2. And the Inspector General of Police to look into the matter and provide victims of good medical care.
They also want women to be properly compensated for the losses they have suffered because of their inability to go to market.
