Half of all the problems that arose with new cars in the past year had to do with hip multimedia systems. Interesting detail: the well-known German top brands score the worst. According to research from the British car website JD Power.
The innovation race among car manufacturers appears to lead mainly to headaches among car buyers. Malfunctions in multimedia systems include problems with audio, communication, entertainment, and navigation. BMW, Fiat, and Audi score the worst in terms of malfunctions, while Peugeot and Skoda are the best.
The study, now conducted for the fifth time, measures the number of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) to rank brands in order of reliability. So the lower the PP100 value, the better the manufacturer is assessed. In total, the study measures 177 problem symptoms in eight different categories. The data is based on feedback from 11,530 owners about new cars that were purchased between November 2015 and January 2018.
Peugeot scores
Although it is often thought that cars are becoming more reliable, there are still a worrying number of problems caused by navigation systems. According to JD Power, BMW ends at the bottom with 181 problems per 100 vehicles.
Audi is not far ahead of its German rival with 167 problems per 100 vehicles.
Jaguar, Land Rover, and Mercedes are also low, which shows that spending large amounts on new cars does not guarantee quality.
On the other side of the spectrum, the French car manufacturer Peugeot delivered a top performance with a score of 77. That is a good result for a manufacturer that is often associated with unreliable vehicles.
Skoda and Hyundai also did excellent with 88 and 90 PP100; Nissan and Suzuki complete the top five most reliable car manufacturers.
