Fire razed Ochanja market after Tanker explodes in Onitsha
An oil tanker carrying premium gasoline exploded at Upper Iweka and fire razed part of Ochanja market in Onitsha, Anambra State, after falling on the road. What caused the accident of the Tanker is not yet apparent but several people died and shops razed by fire.
The several pictures posted and shared online revealed the damages caused by the fire. One of the famous markets in Anambra state, known as Ochanja market, also affected by the fire.
Our correspondent, who reported that the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the upper Iweka axis of the city, said that the fire had spread to commercial premises around the area.
Black smoke covered the premises affected by an oil tanker explosion in Onitsha. An eyewitness, who was there when the fire started, said that the “fire began when a Tanker fell and exploded. The fire is already spreading to the Ochanja market and other parts of the city.”
According to another eyewitness, the firefighters had not yet arrived at the scene at the time of filing, as hell is frighteningly devastating the city. According to sources, some service stations around these areas are affected.
Commercial premises located in the Upper Iweka area are also affected. Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police, SP Harunna Muhammed, said that the Police Commissioner, CP John B. Abang, already on the scene for an on-site assessment.
