Fashion Chain Forever 21 made a poor marketing choice by having a blond white male model pose in their ‘Black Panther Wakanda Forever’ Christmas sweater. According to many, it is inappropriate to have a white, blonde man advertise a film that consists solely of black superheroes. The company has attracted the reactions and made excuses.
“Forever 21 takes customer feedback very seriously. We celebrate all superheroes with many different models and ethnic backgrounds. We are therefore sorry if the photo has come across in any way,” according to a spokesperson for the fashion label.
A follower posted a screenshot of the now deleted photo online and wrote: “Did you really put a settler in a Wakanda Forever sweater?” Another wondered why the black male model was not chosen, that also on the site from Forever 21. “Oh no, he only wears the clothes that are on sale.”
‘Black Panther’ was shown in the cinema last year and became a monster success. Actors who played in the film included Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett.
