Freedom of expression: Senegal rank highest in violations
Senegal becomes the champion of violations of freedom of expression in West Africa.
This is revealed in the West Africa Media Foundation’s quarterly report (April-May-June 2018) on the state of freedom of expression in 13 African countries from the Western part.
Senegal is at the forefront of violations of this fundamental right, with eight out of the 40 cases identified in the survey entitled “Monitor of Freedom of Expression in West Africa”, echoed by LesEchos.
Among the violations noted were the arrests of opponents during the demonstration against sponsorship (19 April), the police crackdown on the strike of the students of Lycee Malick Syde Thies (23 April) and the assassination of the student Fallou Sene (May 15).
