After the expensive teddy bear slippers, the bright yellow T-shirt from the shipping company DHL and the handbag in the shape of a blue IKEA bag, the trendy French label Vetements once again comes out with a playful – but secretly quite handy – fashion item: ankle boots with a built-in bottle opener in the heel.
“‘The croc-effect leather ankle boots’ are part of the new approach of Demna Gvasalia (the creative director of label Vetements, ed.) For the accessories of the brand. They are made in Italy from crocodile-textured leather, have a pointed front and a built-in silver bottle opener in the back of the stiletto heel,” is the description of the boots on the brand’s webshop.
When the brand posted a photo of the shoes on Instagram, followers were genuinely impressed. Even colleague designer Marc Jacobs reacted enthusiastically and thought it was a “brilliant invention”. What exactly inspired Gvasalia to implement the bottle opener in the heel is not known, although he previously released a necklace with a bottle opener attached to it.
The boots in question cost – hold on to – 1,309 United States Dollar and, unlike the teddy bear slippers, are still available in all sizes. Earlier today it was announced that co-founder Demna Gvasalia is leaving his brand.
