The worldwide panic around the coronavirus also has an impact on the film, music, and entertainment world. Concerts are canceled, and revenues are also reduced
Performances are canceled, film recordings are withdrawn and there also appear to be financial consequences. Below is the overview of the canceled events
Green day
The American band Green Day has announced that the performances of the ‘Hella Mega Tour’ in Asia are canceled because of the coronavirus. The rockers would give concerts in cities such as Singapore, Bangkok, Taipei, and Tokyo from March onwards, but they have now been canceled.
‘We know it’s rotten because we were really looking forward to seeing you all. But hold your tickets because we will announce new dates quickly.’
BTS
The South Korean boy band BTS has canceled several concerts in their own country. The group was to start their ‘Map Of The Soul’ world tour in Seoul. “We are sorry to announce that the concerts in Seoul that were scheduled for March 11, 12, 18, and 19 in the Olympic Stadium have been canceled,” the band said.
“We hope you understand that this decision was made after extensive and careful consultation. It was inevitable that the concert should be canceled as quickly as possible.”
“No Time To Die”
James Bond actor Daniel Craig and co will not go to China this year to promote the new 007 films ‘No Time To Die’. For fear of the coronavirus, the entire press tour there will be canceled. A drastic decision, because China has the largest consumer market in the film world, and a big premiere was planned in Beijing.
Part of the inhabitants of that city is currently in quarantine. More than 70,000 cinema screens have already been made inaccessible by closing many cinemas. It is therefore unlikely that ‘No Time To Die’ will attract many people to the cinemas and that will undoubtedly be felt in the box office. The first weekend after the release of ‘Spectre’, the film produced a record amount in China. Without Chinese visitors, the new Bond print will lose a lot of its potential income.
“Mission: Impossible 7”
The first recordings of the action movie ‘Mission: Impossible 7’ in Venice has been postponed due to the virus outbreak in Italy. Usually, there would be recordings for three weeks for the print with Tom Cruise in the lead role, but Paramount decided to postpone the records based on advice from the Italian authorities.
They call a halt to public meetings to prevent a further spread of the virus. “For the sake of the safety of the cast and crew, we are changing the production schedule of our three-week shoot in Venice,” says Paramount. The crew may go home until the filming starts. “We will continue to monitor the situation and work together with health and government services.”
Closed Disney amusement parks
The local Disney theme parks in Japan have closed their doors. Tokyo Disney Resort closes until 15 March at the earliest, and the branches in Shanghai and Hong Kong are also closed. The Walt Disney Company warned earlier this month that the profit of Chinese parks could fall by $280 million this quarter.
Cannes Film Festival
At the Cannes film festival, which takes place from 12 to 23 May, the disease does not affect yet. The organization says it is keeping a close eye on the situation after the first contamination in the French seaside resort but sees no reason to cancel the event for now.
The French film festival listens to what is advised by the government and will follow the guidelines, a spokesperson told Variety. “It is still too early to make assumptions about an event that will only take place in 2.5 months.”
