Many Christians have conflicting feelings about sin. At the same time, they adore and despise it. They both adore and oppose it. Sin entices and perplexes us; it is pleasant while also being harmful.
If we asked Christians what sins and temptations they battle daily, we would receive the following responses: impatience, anger, disobedience, lust, criticism, fornication, jealousy, laziness, lies, pride, vanity, slander, selfishness, impatience, anger, disobedience, lust, criticism, fornication… Which of the mentioned sins strikes a chord with you? Is there anything else that comes to mind? No Christian is immune to the battle against sin and flesh. As a result, it is prudent to examine how we can actively fight them daily. Here are 15 methods to consider oneself “dead to sin and alive to God” (Romans 6: 2):
Ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and conviction
“However, anyone who has misgivings about what he eats is condemned since he acts without conviction.” “Sin is everything that is not the result of the conviction.” (Romans 14:23)
Make confession a habit
“If we claim we don’t have a sin problem, we’re lying to ourselves, and the truth isn’t in us.” If we confess our sins, he will forgive us and wash us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9)
Instead of resisting temptation, run away from it
“Cut off your hand if it causes you to stumble; it is better to start life one-armed than to have both hands and go to hell, into the never-ending flames.”(Mark 9:43)
Speak with a brother or sister you trust
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another”. (Proverbs 27:17)
Learn the scriptures by heart
“I keep your word in my heart so that I don’t do anything to offend you.” (Psalm 119:11)
Think about the crucifixion
“By nailing it on the cross, he erased the deed for which the ordinances condemned us and which remained against us.” (Colossians 2:14)
Stop obeying your fleshly cravings
“So put to death the members of the earth, fornication, impurity, passions, wicked desires, and greed, which is idolatry,” says the Bible. (Colossians 3:5)
Be aware of your language
“Let no evil words escape your lips, but if necessary, a nice word that will edify and grace those who hear it.” (Ephesians 4:29)
Take suggestions and reprimands in stride
“Go and take it between you and your brother alone if your brother has sinned.” You’ve won your brother if he listens to you.” (Matthew 18:15)
Gaining a better understanding of oneself
“A fool who returns to his folly is like a dog that returns to what he has vomited.” (Proverbs26:11 )
Learn to control your rage
“Let go of your rage, let go of your wrath; don’t become upset, that’s bad.” (Psalm 37: 8)
In all of your activities, seek to please Christ
“It is also for this reason that we try to please him, whether we stay in this body or depart it.” ( 2 Corinthians 5:9)
Keep in mind God’s efforts to rescue us
“But you were washed, but you were cleansed, but the Spirit of our God justified you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 6:11)
Take Jesus as a model
“If anybody wants to follow me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me,” Jesus said to his followers. (Matthew 16:24)
Never forget that God sees everything
“No creature is concealed from him, but everything is exposed and naked in the eyes of the one who must answer for us.” (Hebrews 4:13)
Sin separates us from God. As a result, we must be vigilant and diligent in working for our salvation every day to avoid allowing the body to expand its grip on us and sin to enslave us, which Jesus liberated us from!
