The Spanish Parliament has today finally approved the legislation on euthanasia. This makes Spain one of the few countries in the world that offers a terminally ill patient the opportunity to die in order to end his suffering.
The law, a priority for the government of socialist Pedro Sánchez, will take effect in June. Among other things, it was approved by the lower house of parliament with the votes of the left and the political center.
A large majority of 202 representatives out of 350 voted in favor, while 141 representatives of the right and extreme right voted against and two lower house members abstained.
Euthanasia is the practice of intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering.
